Over 4800 trees and shrubs were planted in the city of Wadena and surrounding areas beginning Saturday, April 30 into the following week! With help from twelve Boy Scout troops, Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, Conservation Corps of Minnesota and numerous volunteers and organizations, an estimated 150 landowner lots were planted in the city of Wadena on April 30. There were 75 landowners who chose to plant their own trees. Another 8 landowner lots were planted in the surrounding areas of Wadena during May 2-4.
For those landowners who were not ready this spring, we do plan on having another planting day in the spring of 2012.
By donating just $10 via the GiveMN.org Wadena Area Tree Replant Project you will be helping someone in the Wadena area and surrounding communities replant a tree lost in the June 17th tornado. Our goal is to raise $100,000 in the coming months to replant the estimated 10,000 trees that were lost. It sounds like a huge amount, but just think about it this way...
If we can get 10, 000 people to donate just $10 each, we could change the landscape of this community for generations to come. Please give generously and we'll all breathe a little easier when our "Tree City" is restored to its former beauty. Learn more about the trees that will be available next spring!
We will also be accepting donations of trees from nurseries, tree farms and landscaping companies to help in our efforts to replant the area. Please visit our Donate or Receive Trees page if you have trees you would like to donate or if you are in need of trees.
